Ketamine Treatment for Anxiety, Depression & PTSD

At Addison Internal Medicine, we offer ketamine treatment for patients who have not found relief through traditional antidepressant medications.

What is Ketamine Treatment?

Ketamine is a revolutionary treatment that has shown remarkable efficacy in alleviating symptoms of anxiety, depression, and PTSD when traditional methods have fallen short. Originally known as an anesthetic, ketamine's unique properties have paved the way for its use in mental health therapy. Administered in controlled settings, ketamine treatment offers rapid relief, often within hours or days, compared to the weeks or months typical of conventional treatments.

How Ketamine Works

Ketamine works by targeting the brain's glutamate system, a key neurotransmitter in the brain, which plays a crucial role in mood regulation. Its action on NMDA receptors sets ketamine apart from conventional antidepressants, targeting pathways associated with faster antidepressant effects.

By modulating glutamate levels, ketamine helps restore balance to neural networks that may be disrupted in conditions like anxiety, depression, and PTSD.

Additionally, ketamine promotes the growth of new synaptic connections, fostering neuroplasticity and enhancing resilience against stressors.
